Well yes it HAS been awhile hasn’t it? Fall and spring are incredibly busy times on the farm – rushing to prepare for winter takes weeks. However we’re about there. Harvest is as collected as it’s going to be, beds are turned and amended, irrigation lines are purged, water shut off, barn windows installed, house roof repaired, snow blower installed on the tractor, stakes installed to guide the plow truck, windows caulked up for winter, apples, pears, peppers, and herbs dried, flower pots dumped and composted, compost amended and turned, seeds collected, row covers on and subsequently ripped off by the wind…..
It’s been busy to say the very least. The farm is officially been put to bed for the winter; which is good – today is the first day of snow. Now we’ve had a little snow thus far, a couple of interesting driving days but this morning was blizzard-y, windy and cold ad there’s no warm up in the forecast which means it is likely sticking around. So Campobello is all snugged up for the winter. Ready to cook, to enjoy the harvest, and spread next year’s planting maps out all over the dining room table and thumb through the seed catalogs.
